Carla Kranendonk was born in 1961 in Steggerda, The Netherlands. Today, she lives and works in Amsterdam. Kranendonk creates a world of pattern and colour in her art. But it is also a very human world, almost always dominated by the calm yet resonant presence of the single female figure.

Carla Kranendonk's work is inspired by her travels in West Africa and the Caribbean. It is a tribute to the beauty, pride, tragedy, strength and humour of the African and Afro-American people.
